The Baby Story
Surprise,or at the least it really was for us! The actual due date was Friday the 14, Rachel was thinking this baby is in no hurry,probably next week (the week after the due date.) Well the baby had other plans. I was wrapping up a building we cleaned (the closest building of any in Florida that we service!) when I got the call [6:50 pm], "Steven! my water just broke!" She called a close friend of hers to come over and stay with Aubrey and Brigham so that I could go with her to the hospital. Just after I got home[7:20 pm], we started talking about "now what" We call the doctor that would be delivering the baby and were advised get to the hospital as soon as possible! Rachel's good friend(!) arrived and she took over with the kids. We got our things together, because nothing was at all(!), and called our Home Teacher. He quickly came in his best white shirt and tie to assist me with Rachel's Priesthood blessing [8:30 pm]. With our hands on her head we gave her a wonderful blessing that all would go well, in a previous blessing the night before I blessed her that through all this she would remain calm and have a wonderful sense of peace that all would be well and work out perfectly. Well, I was so impressed! She showed NO signs of cramping (even though she was having them) and if you didn't know she was about to have a baby, you wouldn't have! She looked and acted like it was just another night, we all gathered around for scriptures and prayers, we each took a turn and said a prayer for Rachel and the baby. Aubrey's and Brigham's prayers were very special. [9:30 pm] Rachel puts the kids to bed, sings them their regular goodnight song. Then we gathered up all our things and travel 10-15 mins to the hospital.
[10:00 pm] We are admitted and given a room. They check Rachel and she arrives here at 100% e-phased and dilated to a 3-4 centimeters. Then we relax and visit. I fell asleep, Rachel relaxed and watched some tv. We waited! [midnight] Rachel's contractions are getting stronger. [12:15 am] Rachel's calls the nurse to request pain relief options. The nurse checks Rachel and announces, 'Sorry to late for the drugs, your having a baby." The room gets reconfigured and the doctor comes in. Rachel's contractions are now very close and strong!!!!!!! The baby's coming! What is it going to be??? Boy or Girl!!??
[12:30 am] the doctor sits down and it's go time! REMEMBER RACHEL WANTED TO GET SOMETHING FOR THE PAIN BUT THE TIMING WAS OFF, SHE IS WITHOUT ANY HELP! The doctors and nurses work together and about 12:36 head first, face down out comes the baby! I defiantly remember the face down part cause I was looking for the parts of the baby that identify the boy girl thing. IT'S A BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The delivery: with the room all set and the doctor, nurses, and Rachel all ready to go! ready or not here we go! I really was not watching the clock but from the time Rachel started to the time the baby came must have only been 3-4 mins! She pushed 1.5 times. The first push the baby crowned and we could see a head full of hair! The next push the baby came!
Rachel is recovering very nicely. She is up and about, eating and looking a beautiful as always. The baby is sleeping so nicely, wakes up to feed and then goes back to sleep. The only time we ever heard it was just after birth. It cried for a few mins. It is so cute. Something kinda funny is that this baby looked at the time so much differently than what I was expecting: big lips, wrinkly face, and dark curly hair. Whose baby is this?
We are doing really good, just wanted to give an update. Sorry it was so long if you don't want the long version, call and get a condensed version of the story from Mom or Dad.
